Firefighter’s Violent Outburst: Florida Man Charged After Attacking Teens Over Prank

Lighthouse Point, Florida — A firefighter faces multiple felony charges following an alleged violent confrontation with a group of teenagers who reportedly played a prank at his home. The incident occurred on the evening of Nov. 23, when 31-year-old Alex Lutz, an employee of the Highland Beach Fire Rescue, became embroiled in a dispute with the youths.

According to the Lighthouse Point Police Department, a group of teenagers on a golf cart engaged in a prank known as “ding dong ditch,” which involves ringing a doorbell and fleeing the scene. In response to the noise, an enraged Lutz emerged from his residence wielding a baseball bat and pursued the teenagers.

Police investigators indicate that once Lutz caught up with the group, he allegedly began striking them and damaging the golf cart with the bat. Surveillance footage reportedly captured both the physical assault and the sound of the teenagers shouting in terror as Lutz allegedly threatened them, stating, “I will kill you.”

Authorities revealed that several of the teenagers sustained injuries during the incident. Lutz surrendered to law enforcement the following Monday and was released on bond the next day. He is facing serious charges, which include two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of criminal mischief.

In light of the allegations, Highland Beach Fire Rescue acknowledged Lutz’s arrest and has placed him on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation takes place. The organization emphasized its commitment to upholding community safety and the integrity of its personnel.

As the case unfolds, it raises questions about the responsibilities of public service employees and the appropriate responses to perceived threats. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of escalating situations in otherwise lighthearted contexts.
