Firefighter Killed in Tragic Tractor Explosion at Littlerock Quarry

Los Angeles, California – A tragic incident unfolded at a rock quarry in Littlerock that claimed the life of a firefighter when a burning tractor exploded on Friday afternoon. The explosion occurred around 2:10 p.m. at Hi-Grade Materials, located at 6500 E. Avenue T, as confirmed by Los Angeles County Department officials.

Fire Chief Anthony Marrone disclosed during a press conference that firefighters had rushed to the scene following a report of a large front loader on fire. Unfortunately, the situation took a devastating turn with the explosion, resulting in the death of a firefighter. The cause of the fire and subsequent explosion remains under investigation.

Another firefighter who was in close proximity to the blast was taken to a hospital for evaluation but was expected to be released later that evening. Authorities have identified the fallen firefighter as Andrew Pontious from Fire Station 93 in Palmdale. Described as a dedicated 19-year veteran, husband, father, and “wonderful man” by Marrone, his loss has deeply impacted the department.
