MCKEE, Ky. — A tragic house fire claimed the lives of three young children and left several others injured on the night before Christmas Eve in Jackson County. The blaze erupted on Upper Dry Fork Road in the small town, prompting an emergency response shortly before midnight.
Kentucky State Police received a request for assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, leading to a coordinated investigation by law enforcement, firefighters, and the county coroner. Upon arrival, responders found three children, ages 7 months, 2 years, and 3 years, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
A fourth child, a 4-year-old, was rushed to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, where further medical evaluation led to their transfer to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, for specialized care.
The fire also resulted in injuries to three adults: 23-year-old Tyler Monst, 22-year-old Morgan Johnson, and 76-year-old Florence Johnson, all residents of McKee. They too were transported to the University of Kentucky hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire or the circumstances that led to the children’s devastating deaths. Investigators continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses to shed light on this heartbreaking incident.
