Fire Engulfs $800K Home in Wake County, Displacing Family and Prompting Investigation

Garner, North Carolina β€” A fire devastated a large home in Wake County on Monday afternoon, leaving a family of three displaced. The blaze erupted shortly before 2 p.m. on Cyprine Court, prompting a swift response from local fire departments.

Emergency personnel from Garner, Raleigh, and Fuquay-Varina arrived on the scene around 1:48 p.m., where they encountered intense flames primarily in the attic and rear of the two-story dwelling. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a significant response, with fire trucks and support vehicles lining the street while neighbors looked on.

As firefighters battled the flames, a crane equipped with a water hose extended over the structure, pouring water onto the smoldering roof. Additional hoses were directed towards a neighboring home to prevent the fire from spreading further. Observers noted rapid escalation, with one resident, Dee Eubanks, remarking on how quickly the fire spread from a small back porch to engulf the entire house in about ten minutes.

The brick residence, situated in a cul-de-sac, had an assessed value nearing $800,000 according to county records. By the time firefighters arrived, the roof had collapsed, and flames were visible through the windows, sending plumes of smoke that could be seen from as far away as Cary.

In the aftermath, the American Red Cross stepped in to assist the affected family, providing immediate support. Donnell Nichols, a representative for the organization, explained that the focus was on ensuring the displaced family had the necessary resources for recovery, allowing them the flexibility to determine their next steps.

While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, Eubanks speculated that gusty winds may have played a role in how swiftly the flames spread. β€œThe wind was gusting pretty good earlier, and the flames at their highest point reached about 40 feet,” he said, reflecting on the chaotic scene.

The Wake County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently conducting an investigation to determine the origin of the fire and assess any potential fire safety measures that may need to be reviewed in light of this incident. Authorities have not yet released further details as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
