Detectives are interviewing witnesses and seeking surveillance video as they investigate an apartment-complex confrontation that ended in gunfire.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Harris County prosecutors are expected to review an investigation into a weekend shooting that wounded two men after an argument at a Cypress Station apartment complex, authorities said Sunday.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said detectives will present the case to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office after completing their investigation. A woman accused of firing during the confrontation was detained at the scene, but authorities had not announced any criminal charges as of Sunday. The review will follow additional witness interviews and efforts to obtain surveillance video from the area.
Deputies were called about 7:48 p.m. Saturday to The Park at Cumberland Apartments at 505 Cypress Station Drive. Investigators said a verbal dispute between residents turned physical before an adult woman fired toward a group of people. Deputies found two adult men with gunshot wounds when they arrived.
Both men were taken to a hospital. Early information released Saturday night described one man as being in critical condition and the other in fair condition. Authorities said Sunday that both were expected to survive. Investigators said preliminary information showed that the two wounded men had taken part in the physical altercation before the shooting.
The woman was detained after deputies arrived, and authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the community. Her identity had not been released, and officials had not said whether she remained in custody. Authorities also had not publicly identified the wounded men or explained the relationship, if any, between the woman and the other people involved.
Those unanswered questions are among the issues detectives were working to clarify Sunday. Investigators were speaking with people who witnessed the confrontation and searching for surveillance recordings that could provide an independent view of the sequence of events. Officials had not publicly described what caused the initial argument or what happened during the physical confrontation immediately before the gunfire.
The case remained in an investigative stage, and the woman’s detention does not by itself establish that a crime occurred or that charges will be filed. Authorities had not announced a specific offense under consideration. The district attorney’s office will determine whether the evidence presented by investigators supports criminal charges.
The fuller account released Sunday added details that were not available immediately after the shooting. Initial reports confirmed only that deputies had responded to the Cypress Station Drive complex and that two men were hospitalized. Later information identified an altercation as the event that preceded the gunfire and confirmed that a woman had been detained.
Investigators had not released a final account of the shooting, and no charging decision had been announced. Detectives continued collecting evidence Sunday before forwarding the case to prosecutors for review.
