Father of Slain Daughter Throws Himself into Campaigning to Prevent Future Tragedies After Her Abusive Ex Was Not Arrested

GLOUCESTER, England – Ten years ago, Nick Gazzard’s daughter, Hollie, was tragically murdered by her abusive ex-partner after the police had failed to take action. Since then, Gazzard has dedicated himself to raising awareness about domestic abuse and coercive control, using Hollie’s story to prevent others from facing a similar fate.

Hollie, a 20-year-old hairdresser, had known her ex-partner, Asher Maslin, for only a year before the fateful incident. Despite signs that Maslin was trouble, Gazzard never believed that Hollie’s life could be in danger. Even when Hollie reported the abuse and threats from Maslin to the police, they failed to recognize the severity of the situation and take appropriate action.

After her tragic death, Gazzard channeled his grief into a mission to prevent others from experiencing the same tragedy. He founded the Hollie Gazzard Trust, which focuses on raising public awareness about domestic abuse and coercive control. The trust has also developed the Hollie Guard personal safety app, which has been downloaded 500,000 times and has been used as evidence in police investigations.

Despite the profound impact of Hollie’s death on his life, Gazzard has refused to be consumed by anger. He emphasizes the importance of addressing the perpetrators of abuse and changing their behavior, rather than allowing anger to consume him.

Gazzard’s dedication to his mission has come with personal sacrifices, including a stroke in 2020 and the end of his marriage. Yet, the messages from those who have been positively influenced by Hollie’s story continue to fuel his determination.

For Gazzard, keeping Hollie’s memory alive and using her story to create positive change has been a source of purpose and strength. He remains committed to honoring her legacy and preventing others from suffering a similar fate.
