FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – Tragedy struck on I-66 in Virginia, as the Virginia State Police reported a fatality following a series of accidents on Wednesday. The chain of events began with a crash involving three vehicles in the westbound lanes of I-66, which resulted in one person injured who refused treatment.
Shortly after, another three-vehicle accident occurred on the same stretch of I-66 near Nutley Street exit, involving a tow truck that was responding to the initial crash at the 51 mile marker. According to VSP spokeswoman Corinne Geller, the tow truck came to a halt, leading to a chain reaction collision where an SUV rear-ended the tow truck before colliding with a pickup truck.
Tragically, the driver of the SUV sustained fatal injuries and was taken to Fairfax INOVA Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Despite facing non-life-threatening injuries, the tow truck driver was also hospitalized for treatment. Fortunately, the driver of the pickup truck escaped unscathed from the ordeal.
Subsequently, a third wreck unfolded on the interstate at around 7:35 p.m., involving two vehicles near mile marker 56. Emergency personnel rushed one of the drivers involved in the collision to the hospital for further medical attention.
