Fatal Shooting Autopsy Analysis Shows Colorado Murder Suspect’s Children Were Killed by Mother

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — The autopsy reports of two young children allegedly killed by their mother in December revealed disturbing details, according to investigators. Kimberlee Singler, the mother of 7-year-old Aden Wentz and 9-year-old Elianna “Ellie” Wentz, faces multiple counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths. She is also accused of wounding her older daughter, who survived the incident.

The autopsy reports, released on Friday, indicated that both children were shot in the head. Aden died from a gunshot wound, while Ellie died from a gunshot and cuts. Additionally, both children had “potentially lethal” or “lethal” levels of doxylamine in their blood, a drug commonly found in sleep aids and allergy medicines.

Colorado Springs Police stated that Singler reported a burglary at their residence in the early morning hours of Dec. 19. However, investigators later determined that the burglary report was “unfounded.” Court records obtained by 9NEWS revealed that Singler had been in the midst of a lengthy divorce and custody dispute with her ex-husband. She had also been ordered to turn the children over to him ahead of a court hearing set for Dec. 20.

On the day of the hearing, Singler, who was representing herself, went to a public library and used a computer to file a motion with the court, asking for the hearing to be continued. In the motion, she claimed that someone had broken into her residence, attacked her and her children, and left Ellie and Aden dead, while she and her other daughter were left to die. Singler described lacerations on her neck and wrists and requested time to heal and grieve the loss of her two children.

Six days later, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Singler on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, and first-degree assault. She remains in the UK and is due in court in London for a hearing on Feb. 26.
