Fatal Drag Racing Crash in Troup County Leaves Two Dead and Three Injured

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. – An unfortunate incident involving drag racing in Troup County resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals and left three others injured on Sunday night. According to Georgia State Patrol, the fatal car accident was a result of drag racing, with Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley confirming the identities of the victims as two LaGrange men.

The victims were identified as 42-year-old Cory Maddox and 47-year-old Matalito Bass. Maddox was reportedly a spectator at the alleged drag race that took place at Antioch and Chewning Roads, while Bass was believed to be one of the drivers involved in the race. The collision occurred when an S-10 Chevrolet collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer, which was assumed to be a car spectating the race.

Coroner Hackley shared details about the incident, stating, “Cory Maddox, it is believed that he was a bystander standing at a parked vehicle on the side of the road. It is believed that he [Matalito Bass] was the driver of the S-10 truck.” The two individuals killed were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

As of now, there have been no updates regarding the injuries and conditions of the adult female and two children who were also involved in the incident. They were airlifted to nearby trauma centers for treatment on Sunday night. It is currently unclear whether they were spectators at the event or occupants of the vehicles that were partaking in the drag race.
