Explosive Firework Incident Injures Twin Girls in River Rouge, MI

River Rouge, Michigan – Tragedy struck a River Rouge home when an 11-year-old girl lost several fingers and her twin sister sustained injuries after a firework exploded in their hands. The incident occurred on Superior and Eaton streets at 5 p.m., leaving the girls with severe consequences.

According to reports, the girls mistakenly believed the firework to be something minor and innocuously lit it inside their home. The explosion resulted in one girl losing multiple fingers while her twin suffered lesser harm. Quick action by a neighbor, who happened to be a nurse, in applying a tourniquet helped stabilize the situation until medical help arrived.

The injured girls were promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Fortunately, authorities have stated that both girls are expected to recover from the traumatic event.

Law enforcement officials are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. River Rouge Deputy Police Chief Dasumo Mitchell revealed that the firework in question was believed to be larger than an M-80, a type of firecracker deemed illegal in Michigan.

Despite an adult woman being present in the household at the time, she was reportedly asleep when the explosion occurred. The mother of the girls was away at work during the incident. As the community reels from the aftermath, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the accident.
