Explosions Rock Dartmouth Neighborhood as Firefighters Battle Massive Garage Blaze

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — A house fire in Dartmouth early Tuesday morning has left one person hospitalized with burns and prompted an investigation by the local bomb squad. The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m. on Seminole Road, was marked by multiple explosions that neighbors captured on home security cameras.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the garage fully engulfed in flames. Dartmouth Fire Chief Timothy Lancaster confirmed that the injured individual was taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition has not yet been disclosed. Fortunately, no firefighters sustained injuries as they worked to control the blaze.

Neighbor Cheryl Nye provided alarming footage showing the explosions that lit up the neighborhood. The video illustrated the moments just before the flames engulfed the garage, and the loud sounds of the explosions echoed through the area.

As daylight broke, aerial views revealed the extensive damage. A WBZ-TV helicopter captured images of the destroyed garage, along with several vehicles and a boat nearby that showed significant fire damage.

In light of the circumstances, Lancaster stated that the Fire Marshal’s office requested the bomb squad to investigate the garage’s contents. The Fire Marshal has indicated that bomb squads and hazardous materials teams are often called to scenes with potentially dangerous or reactive substances.

The fire also spread to the adjacent property, causing additional damage. When asked about the cause of the explosions and fire, Lancaster mentioned that “anything is possible right now,” indicating that the investigation could take some time to yield definitive answers.

Further insights regarding the incident, including interviews with witnesses and residents, may provide additional context as the investigation unfolds. Community members remain on edge as officials begin to piece together what transpired.

Authorities have not released further information, but updates will be made available as investigations continue into this troubling event in Dartmouth.
