Explosion Levels Home, Injures Six in Austin Tragedy

Austin, Texas – A devastating house explosion on Sunday left six people injured, with a two-story home completely leveled in the 10400 block of Double Spur Loop near DK Ranch Road, according to officials. The Austin Fire Department responded to the scene just before 11:30 a.m., where they found a neighboring home with significant structural collapse and a vehicle on fire.

In addition to the leveled home, twenty-four other homes in the Spicewood Mesa, Pantera Ridge, and Muley Drive area were reported damaged by the explosion. Firefighters initiated search operations and extricated two individuals from the debris, one from the primary home and the other from a neighboring residence.

Among the six injured individuals, two residents from the two-story home were in critical and serious but stable condition, while another person and two firefighters sustained minor injuries. The blast, reportedly heard as far as Georgetown, prompted a response from various emergency departments, including the Travis County Fire Marshal who is leading the investigation into the incident.

Despite initial speculation about a possible plane crash, the fire department has ruled out that possibility. As of now, the cause of the explosion remains unknown, underscoring the ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the catastrophic event.

Authorities confirmed that all residents in the affected homes have been accounted for, with no remaining spot fires in the area. A multitude of agencies, including Austin FD, Austin police, Austin-Travis County EMS, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Gas, and Pedernales Electric Company, have collaborated in the aftermath of the explosion to provide necessary support and aid to the affected community.
