Explosion kills man in Somerset garage, ATF investigates

SOMERSET, KENTUCKY – An explosion in Somerset claimed the life of a man on Sunday morning, prompting an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Authorities were called to 210 Hidden Crest Lane at 10 a.m. where they found the man deceased at the scene. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that a garage had been obliterated in the explosion, with additional damage sustained by neighboring properties.

Sheriff Bobby Jones indicated that fireworks and other materials found in the garage are believed to be at the root of the explosion. The ATF joined local law enforcement to aid in the investigation, led by the sheriff’s office.

Cassandra Mullins, public information officer for the ATF’s Louisville Field Division, confirmed the sheriff’s office as the primary investigating agency. Sheriff Jones reassured the public that there were no lingering threats to safety.

Due to the extensive debris field and the ongoing nature of the investigation, authorities advised the community to steer clear of the area when possible. Any discovery of debris or suspicious items should be reported promptly to the ATF or local law enforcement.

As the investigation progresses, updates on this tragic incident will continue to surface.
