Explosion Investigation Underway in Colorado Springs After Discovery of Suspicious Device

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is currently conducting an investigation into reports of an explosion that occurred near the downtown area at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, January 12th.

According to CSPD, they received numerous calls regarding the explosion in the vicinity of Costilla and El Paso Streets on Friday evening. Following these reports, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of East Costilla Street on the morning of Saturday, January 13th, just before 9 a.m., to respond to a suspicious circumstance. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered what appeared to be parts from an explosive device.

In response to the situation, CSPD’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) has taken charge of the investigation and is currently on the case, combing for clues and gathering evidence at the scene. The nature and cause of the explosion have yet to be determined.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in their efforts to uncover the truth behind the explosion.
