Explosion in Derry, NH: Elderly Woman Dead, Juvenile Injured in Tragic Fire Incident

Derry, New Hampshire – A tragic incident unfolded in Derry, New Hampshire, as an explosion at a home resulted in the death of an elderly woman and serious injuries to a juvenile. Firefighters responded to reports of an explosion at a single-family home on Goodhue Road, finding the deceased woman on the driveway and attempting to rescue the individual still inside the burning structure.

The juvenile was rushed to Parkland Hospital in Derry before being transferred to a Boston hospital for further treatment. Fire Marshal Sean Toomey mentioned that despite the circumstances, the juvenile is expected to recover, but faces a challenging road ahead. The identity of the deceased victim and the exact cause of death will be revealed following an autopsy scheduled for Friday morning.

Propane was identified as the sole gas present at the residence, with investigators also looking into potential weather-related factors. Despite challenging weather conditions, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control swiftly, preventing damage to neighboring homes. The cause of the explosion and subsequent fire remains under investigation, with no suspicion of criminal activity at this time.
