Explosion Death Toll Rises to 86 in Niger State Tragedy

Minna, Niger State – The death toll in the tragic tanker explosion in Niger State, Nigeria, has risen to 86, with 55 people now reported as wounded. The incident occurred at Dikko Junction in the Gurara local government area on a devastating Saturday.

According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), efforts are underway to manage the aftermath of the explosion. The agency, along with local government authorities and volunteers, coordinated the burial of the recovered bodies, with 80 individuals laid to rest in a mass grave at the Dikko Primary Healthcare premises.

The burial process faced challenges and took place between 5 p.m. and midnight, with volunteers ensuring the victims were handled properly. NSEMA is working in collaboration with relevant agencies to continue managing any potential future disasters. Support is being provided to the wounded and the families of those affected by the tragic event.

Governor Umaru Bago has issued an order restricting vehicles from passing the Dikko Bridge from the Maje axis. The governor visited the scene of the explosion, expressing concerns about reckless driving habits and emphasizing the importance of following traffic directives for safety.
