Explosion claims life of welder at Rockport Steel site

Rockport, Maine – A tragic incident unfolded in Rockport, Maine on Friday afternoon, leading to the death of a man involved in welding activities. The explosion occurred at Rockport Steel, resulting in the untimely passing of 39-year-old Sean Rancourt.

According to a statement from the state fire marshal’s office, emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 2:50 p.m. following reports of an explosion. Upon arrival, investigators determined that the explosion occurred while Rancourt was welding on a diesel fuel tank, resulting in fatal injuries.

Despite efforts from local EMS personnel, Rancourt succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His body was later transferred to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta for further examination through an autopsy process.

Various local agencies, including the Rockport Fire Department, Rockport Police Department, Camden Police Department, and Northeast Ambulance Service, promptly responded to the incident at Rockport Steel’s location on 17 Rockville Street.
