Explosion at Dublin Hostel Leaves One Dead – Emergency Services Investigating

Dublin, Ireland – A fatal explosion occurred at a hostel in the city center of Dublin, resulting in the death of a man. The incident took place at the Depaul homeless hostel on Little Britain Street, off Capel Street, prompting response from Dublin Fire Brigade and gardai (police) after reports of a blast around 3:30pm. The victim sustained fatal injuries, with no other reported injuries.

Following the explosion, emergency services evacuated the building and established a cordon, implementing local traffic diversions. The precise cause of the explosion is under investigation, with the Garda Technical Bureau set to examine the scene. Initial assessments by gardai did not suggest foul play.

Depaul, the homeless hostel, confirmed the incident and assured that all service users affected by the explosion would be evacuated from the building and provided with alternative placements. Depaul is working with the DRHE (Dublin Region Homeless Executive) and NGO partners to ensure that no person will be left without accommodation.

As investigations continue, there is heightened awareness and concern for the safety and well-being of those affected by the explosion. The community is urged to come together in support of those impacted by this tragic event.
