Explosion at Boonville Church Leaves Multiple Injured as Firefighters Respond to Gas Leak Warning

Boonville, New York, was the scene of a devastating explosion at the Abundant Life Church on Tuesday morning, resulting in multiple injuries and a large fire that engulfed the building. Emergency services received their first call regarding a gas odor at the church around 10:23 AM, just prior to the explosion that occurred at 10:45 AM.

Local authorities quickly responded, dispatching multiple emergency crews to assess the situation, provide medical care, and combat the flames. The sight of smoke billowing from the church drew attention from onlookers, prompting video footage of the scene to circulate on social media.

David Olney, chief of the Village of Boonville Police Department, reported that the pastor of the church detected a gas smell and promptly contacted emergency services. Shortly thereafter, while investigating the issue, an explosion ripped through the building. The pastor was reportedly present with four firefighters, including the fire chief, at the time of the incident. All five individuals sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

New York State police and fire officials are currently investigating the explosion, with efforts focused on identifying the cause of the gas leak that preceded the blast. Authorities have indicated there is no suspicion of foul play at this time.

Posts on the church’s Facebook page indicate that both the pastor and another congregant were inside during the explosion and may have suffered burns. The community has begun sharing messages of support as news of the incident spreads.

As first responders work to ensure the area is secure and investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion, local residents are left shaken by the destruction of a space that has served as a pillar of the community. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
