Ex-Pastor Faces Sexual Crime Charges

COMSTOCK PARK, MI – A man facing multiple charges of child sexual abuse in Maryland has been linked to a church in Comstock Park, Michigan. The suspect, Thomas Pinkerton, was recently arrested in Georgia and extradited to Maryland, where he faces serious allegations.

Pinkerton, who was once active in the New Chapel Church in Comstock Park, served as a youth pastor and treasurer. Concerns about his behavior were raised by churchgoer To Grunwell, who had known Pinkerton since childhood. Grunwell expressed her unease about Pinkerton’s actions within the church, particularly towards her son, a member of the youth group.

Grunwell’s concerns were dismissed by the church, leading to her removal from the congregation. She later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for threatening the church’s lead pastor, a move she said was driven by frustration over the lack of transparency.

The investigation into Pinkerton began in Maryland last October after several men accused him of abuse while he led a youth group from 2006 to 2010. These men alleged that Pinkerton exploited his position to prey on minors, often under the guise of religious teachings.

New Chapel Church has since severed ties with Pinkerton, expressing shock and heartbreak over the accusations. The church is cooperating with authorities and is committed to supporting justice for the victims.

Authorities believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. They urge anyone with information to contact the Baltimore County Crimes Against Children unit.

Pinkerton’s attorney maintains his innocence, stating that Pinkerton denies the allegations and looks forward to clearing his name in court. As of now, no charges have been filed against him in Michigan.

The case continues to unfold, with the community seeking answers and justice for those affected. The situation highlights the importance of vigilance and accountability within community organizations.
