Police said the gunman fled after a fight inside the business Wednesday afternoon.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — A man in his 30s was killed Wednesday after a gunman walked into a northwest Las Vegas business, asked for him and opened fire after a fight, police said.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said officers were called shortly after 4:30 p.m. to the Best in the West shopping center in the 2100 block of North Rainbow Boulevard. The victim was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the shooting began when the suspect entered the business and asked for a specific employee. Investigators said the two men then fought before the suspect drew a firearm and shot the employee. The suspect ran from the scene in an unknown direction before officers arrived.
Authorities described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s. Police had not released a more detailed description, and no arrest had been announced Thursday. Detectives also had not named the business where the shooting occurred.
The victim’s identity was not immediately released. The Clark County coroner’s office is expected to confirm his name and cause and manner of death after relatives are notified. Police said the investigation was preliminary and additional details could change as detectives review evidence.
The shooting brought a large police response to the retail center near Rainbow and Lake Mead boulevards. Officers secured the area while homicide detectives interviewed witnesses and searched for video that could show the suspect’s arrival, the confrontation and his escape route.
The case remained open Thursday, with police seeking tips from people who were in the shopping center or nearby businesses at the time of the shooting. No court dates or charges had been announced because no suspect was in custody.
