Drug Bust in Port Hardy Leads to Arrest of Six Individuals and Seizure of Firearms and Narcotics

Port Hardy, British Columbia – Following a recent increase in overdose deaths in the Port Hardy area, the RCMP have taken significant steps in a drug-related investigation. Six individuals have been arrested, and two search warrants have been executed as part of the operation launched in early March by the Port Hardy RCMP, with support from Island District RCMP General Investigation Section (IDGIS) and Port Alice RCMP.

The arrests on March 9th led to the confiscation of substantial quantities of suspected Fentanyl, crack cocaine, and cocaine, along with the seizure of a handgun and a shotgun during the search of locations within Port Hardy. Chief Superintendent Shawna Baher, Island District RCMP Commander, assured the community of Port Hardy and surrounding Indigenous communities that the RCMP is committed to reducing overdose deaths in the area.

Law enforcement officials are working closely with partners to determine the roles of the individuals involved in the drug trade and to ensure public safety. A detailed report will be submitted to Crown Counsel for the consideration of charges against those arrested in connection to this investigation. The Port Hardy RCMP announced that there will be an increased police presence in the future, with support from BC Highway Patrol and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC).
