Double murder shocks town

LAGRANGE, GA – A small Georgia town is reeling after a brutal crime left two people dead in a burning home. Joy Williams and her boyfriend, Roderick Kennedy, were found shot inside Williams’ residence, prompting an investigation that quickly escalated to a murder case.

On the night of February 8, a report of a house fire led first responders to a scene of horror. The bodies of Williams, 38, and Kennedy, 40, were discovered inside the blaze, both having suffered gunshot wounds. The tragedy has left their families shattered and the community in shock.

Williams’ family held a candlelight vigil on Fendig Street, where they shared memories of her vibrant life. Her parents, Lawrence Williams and Danielle Thompson Willis, are grappling with the loss of their daughter, whose life was cut short in such a violent manner.

Similarly, Kennedy’s mother, Sarah Kennedy, is mourning her son, who she described as being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She recalled hearing the emergency sirens that night, not realizing they were for her son.

The investigation took a swift turn when police arrested 35-year-old Travis Rivers. Initially charged with felony probation violation and aggravated stalking, Rivers now faces a more severe charge of felony murder. Authorities believe Rivers, driven by jealousy, targeted Williams after she ended an abusive relationship with him.

The arrest has provided some solace to the grieving families, but the loss of Williams and Kennedy is deeply felt. Both were known for their joyful spirits and will be sorely missed by those who knew them.

As the community prepares for the upcoming funerals, Rivers remains in custody, facing a slew of charges, including felony murder and aggravated assault. The residents of LaGrange are left to cope with the aftermath of a crime that has rocked their town.
