Homicide detectives spent hours processing a Broward County home after deputies found the woman dead Friday night.
TAMARAC, Fla. — A woman was killed in a stabbing at a Tamarac home Friday night, and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies detained a suspect at the scene as homicide detectives began investigating what led to the killing, authorities said.
Deputies responded around 7:45 p.m. to the 5300 block of Northwest 28th Avenue after receiving a report of a stabbing, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Claudinne Caro. The residential area is near Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. Deputies found the woman dead after they arrived and also located the person authorities identified as the suspect.
The Sheriff’s Office had not publicly released the names of the woman or the detained person as of Saturday morning. Authorities also had not announced a motive, described the circumstances that led to the stabbing or disclosed whether formal criminal charges had been filed.
Local television crews saw deputies gathered outside the residence and crime scene tape surrounding the home as investigators worked through the night and into Saturday morning. The Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit was handling the investigation and collecting evidence at the property.
Another South Florida news report said deputies were initially sent to the area after receiving a report of a stabbing and found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies detained one person for questioning, according to that report.
The investigation remained in its early stages Saturday. Authorities had not publicly described what evidence was recovered from the home, whether anyone else was present when the stabbing occurred or what investigators believe happened before deputies were called.
The case occurred within Tamarac, where the Broward Sheriff’s Office provides municipal law enforcement services under an agreement with the city. The agency’s homicide investigators typically take responsibility for fatal violence investigated within BSO jurisdictions, including determining the circumstances surrounding a death and presenting findings for any potential criminal case.
No additional deaths or injuries were announced in connection with the incident. Officials had not released information indicating whether investigators were searching for anyone else, and reports from the scene said the identified suspect had already been detained.
The Sheriff’s Office had not announced charges or the next procedural step in the case as of Saturday morning. The investigation was continuing, with detectives expected to determine the sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the woman’s death before releasing further findings.
