Decatur Police Seek Help in Solving Armed Robbery Turned Shooting Case

Decatur, Illinois – The Decatur Police Department is seeking assistance from the public to solve a recent armed robbery incident that escalated into a shooting. The incident took place on January 23rd at 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Morgan Street and East Grand Avenue. According to the police, the victim had just used an ATM at a nearby convenience store when he was approached by a suspect brandishing a chrome-colored handgun. The suspect demanded money, shot the victim in the leg, took money, and then fled the scene in a northeastern direction.

The suspect is described as a 19 to 20-year-old, light-skinned Black man, wearing a gray and black-colored hooded shirt, gray-colored sweatpants, and a black ski mask. He is reported to be around 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a thin build, a low fade haircut, and crooked teeth. The Decatur Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and provide it anonymously through Crime Stoppers. A reward of $500 or more may be given to anyone whose information leads to an arrest in this case.
