Deadly Double Shooting Leaves 17-Year-Old Girl Dead in DC

The latest gunfire killed 17-year-old Daniyah Ford weeks after two men were wounded on the same Northwest Washington block.

WASHINGTON — A Northwest Washington block has been the scene of two separate double shootings within weeks, with the latest gunfire leaving a 17-year-old Maryland girl dead and another person wounded.

Daniyah Ford, 17, of Hyattsville, was fatally wounded Saturday evening in the 3700 block of New Hampshire Avenue NW. Police said officers arrived at about 6:55 p.m. and found Ford and a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to hospitals, where Ford later died.

The shooting came little more than two weeks after another double shooting was reported in the same 3700 block. On Sept. 17, police said two men were wounded there at about 6 p.m. and taken to a hospital. Authorities searched for a man they said was armed with a black pistol in that earlier case.

Police have not announced any connection between the two shootings, and available information does not establish that they involved the same people, motive or circumstances. The proximity of the incidents is nevertheless notable because both involved two victims and occurred on the same block during the early evening.

Saturday’s shooting happened near the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station. Witnesses told FOX 5 that the latest gunfire occurred inside the lobby of an apartment building. Authorities have not released a detailed account of the events leading up to the shooting.

Investigators in the Ford case were searching for two male suspects who may have left the area in a black sedan. Police have not publicly identified the suspects, announced arrests or disclosed a possible motive.

The man wounded alongside Ford has not been publicly identified. Authorities also have not released updated information about his condition or said whether the two victims knew each other.

In the September shooting, police described the suspect as a man about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a slim build who was wearing a navy blue hoodie and black pants. That description was issued specifically in connection with the earlier case and has not been linked by authorities to Ford’s killing.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Ford’s killing. Both investigations remained unresolved in the publicly available reports, and police have not said whether detectives are examining any possible relationship between the incidents.
