Dangerous Driving Causes Fatal Multiple Crashes on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Federal Road Safety Corps reported a tragic incident on Wednesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals. The Chief Route Commander, Florence Okpe, attributed the multiple road crashes to dangerous driving, leaving around 10 passengers with various injuries.

Eye witness accounts revealed that the accidents involved two trucks and a commercial bus. According to one witness, the recklessness of a truck driver led to a collision with another truck and a commercial bus. The abrupt U-turn made by the truck driver without signaling reportedly triggered the series of unfortunate events.

Confirming the details of the accident, Okpe stated that a total of 15 people were involved, with five fatalities, all male. She emphasized that the crash occurred due to dangerous driving practices on the part of one of the truck drivers. The injured individuals were rushed to Famobi Hospital Mowe, while the deceased were taken to Idera Hospital morgue in Sagamu.

Authorities conducted a combined rescue operation, involving the FRSC, police, and other relevant agencies. The Sector Commander expressed concern over the recurring crashes in the area and urged motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding excessive speed and adopting defensive driving measures.

In light of the tragic incident, the Sector Commander emphasized that drivers found responsible for fatal crashes would face prosecution to deter similar reckless behavior. It is a solemn reminder of the importance of responsible driving practices to safeguard lives on the road.
