Investigators have released no public description of the person sought after the early-morning confrontation in North Oak Cliff.
DALLAS, Texas — Dallas police are investigating a stabbing that left 22-year-old Abraham Herrera critically injured after an argument inside a Bishop Arts business spilled outside early Sept. 12, authorities and the man’s family said.
Police responded to the 500 block of North Madison Avenue at about 1:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing. The preliminary investigation indicated that a suspect wounded Herrera in the torso and left the area. Days later, police had not announced an arrest or released a public description of the person they were seeking.
The confrontation began with a verbal dispute inside Dos Amigos, a restaurant and bar in the Bishop Arts area, according to information Dallas police provided to local media. Police said a person involved in the argument displayed a knife, and security workers removed those involved from the business. The confrontation continued outside, where Herrera was stabbed.
Herrera was taken to a hospital for treatment. His family said he later was placed in a medically induced coma at Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff. Relatives have described his condition as critical. They said the wound reached his heart, while police have publicly described the injury as a wound to his torso.
Family members gave a more detailed account of what they believe led to the violence. They said Herrera had been out with relatives and his girlfriend when another man insulted and then struck his girlfriend during the dispute. According to the family, Herrera intervened and expected the confrontation to become a fistfight.
Police have not publicly confirmed every part of the family’s account, including the circumstances involving Herrera’s girlfriend. Investigators have said the dispute began inside the business and continued outdoors. No motive beyond the reported argument has been announced, and authorities have not released the name of a suspected attacker.
The investigation has focused in part on possible video of the confrontation. Herrera’s relatives said people nearby appeared to be recording during the fight, and they have asked witnesses to provide any footage that could help investigators determine who was involved and what happened.
Dallas police also are seeking information about the people involved in the fight. The department has not announced an arrest or provided a suspect description. Detective Darren Burch is handling requests for information connected with the investigation, according to local reports.
Herrera remained hospitalized as the investigation continued. Police had not announced that a suspect was in custody as of Sept. 18, and several details about the confrontation, including the identity of the person who stabbed Herrera, remained unresolved.
