Opelousas, Louisiana – A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday night in Opelousas, Louisiana, where an off-duty St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office corrections deputy lost her life in a shooting. The victim, identified as 23-year-old Chanterria “Mackey” Albert, succumbed to her injuries at an Opelousas hospital following an incident on the 1100 block of Park Avenue. Another individual was also wounded but is reported to be in stable condition.

Reports of gunfire on Park Avenue prompted the swift response of law enforcement around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night. By the time officers arrived at the scene, both victims had already been rushed to the hospital. Tragically, it was later confirmed by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department that the deceased was indeed one of their own corrections deputies.
