Convicted Oakland Man Faces Life Without Parole for Richmond Mass Shooting Tragedy

RICHMOND, Calif. – A man from Oakland, California, named Enrique Ramirez-Calmo, was recently convicted by the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office for his involvement in a tragic shooting incident at a Richmond house party on Father’s Day in 2021. Ramirez-Calmo, along with a 17-year-old accomplice, fatally shot three individuals and injured four others during the event.

The shooting, which occurred on Dunn Avenue near 20th Street, was reportedly driven by mistaken identity and gang-related issues. Authorities stated that Ramirez-Calmo and the other shooter, who was a minor at the time, targeted the victims, who were all men ranging from 18 to 45 years old. The party, known as a “marimba” gathering, was promoted on social media platform Facebook.

Law enforcement officers made a breakthrough in the case when they discovered ballistic evidence linking the house-party shooting in Richmond to a separate incident in Oakland that same night. They also obtained video footage showing the suspects arriving at the party in a Nissan Altima. Ramirez-Calmo and the juvenile shooter were subsequently apprehended in March of 2022.

The prosecution team presented compelling evidence during the trial, including a video captured by one of the victims at the moment of the shooting. District Attorney Diana Becton described the incident as a “senseless massacre” that devastated the lives of innocent families. The jury’s verdict found Ramirez-Calmo guilty on multiple charges, such as three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted murder, and various gang-related enhancements.

Ramirez-Calmo is scheduled for sentencing on March 11 in Martinez, where he may face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The case underscored the challenges faced by law enforcement and the legal system in addressing acts of violence stemming from gang activities and mistaken identities. Justice for the victims and their families remains a top priority for the authorities involved in the investigation and prosecution of this heinous crime.
