Columbine High School Shooting Victims Honored in Emotional Vigil on 25th Anniversary

Denver, Colorado – The 25th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting was marked by a solemn vigil in Denver, Colorado, honoring the 13 victims who lost their lives during the tragic event. Among those remembered were students like Rachel Scott, Kyle Velasquez, and Corey DePooter, each with unique stories that reflected their hopes and dreams cut short by senseless violence.

The vigil, attended by about 150 people, saw the reading of short biographies of each victim, followed by the collective response of “never forgotten” and the tolling of a bell. As candles flickered on 13 empty chairs, the community came together to pay tribute to those who were taken too soon.

The event also highlighted the heroic actions of individuals like teacher Dave Sanders, who saved countless students by guiding them to safety during the shooting. His daughter, Coni Sanders, spoke of his bravery and the lasting impact he had on future generations through his acts of heroism.

In addition to remembering the victims, the vigil drew attention to the lasting trauma experienced by those who survived the shooting and the importance of addressing issues related to gun violence in the community. Tom Mauser, father of victim Daniel Mauser and a strong advocate for gun safety, emphasized the need for action to prevent further tragedies.

Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, a vocal advocate for gun safety, shared her own journey of recovery following a mass shooting, calling on others to join her in taking steps towards positive change. The evening ended with a powerful message of support and solidarity for all those affected by the Columbine tragedy, urging individuals to seek help and stand together in the face of adversity.
