Bhilwara, India – A 65-year-old courier business owner was shot and killed in broad daylight on Tuesday in Chittorgarh, igniting outrage within the local community. Ramesh Inani, who had previously served as the secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chittorgarh, succumbed to his injuries after being transferred to a hospital in Udaipur later that evening.
Inani was ambushed while riding his scooter near the City Petrol Pump in the Kotwali police station area. Eyewitnesses recounted that a masked gunman, identified as 40-year-old Manish Dubey from Banaras, Uttar Pradesh, confronted Inani and fired at close range. The attack left Inani severely injured; he received initial treatment at the Chittorgarh district hospital before being taken to Udaipur, where he ultimately passed away.
Police acted swiftly after the shooting, using CCTV footage and witness statements to track down Dubey, who was apprehended late Tuesday night. Chittorgarh Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi confirmed that the suspect confessed to the attack during questioning, while authorities continue to investigate possible accomplices and motives. “We are pursuing leads to determine if anyone else was involved and what may have prompted this heinous act,” he stated.
Following the news of Inani’s death, many local business owners expressed their sorrow and anger by shuttering their shops across key markets such as Gandhi Chowk and Sadar Bazaar on Wednesday morning. Traders gathered at Collectorate Chowraha, demanding justice and calling for the death penalty for Dubey. The emotions were palpable, as the news reverberated through the business community, highlighting a growing concern over safety.
Inani was known for his active role in the community and had been well-liked among local residents and business owners. His untimely death has sparked discussions about security and the rising incidents of violent crime in the region. The considerable turnout at the protests reflected the community’s strong desire for accountability and justice in this case.
As police continue their investigation, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Authorities hope that further interrogations will shed light on why Dubey targeted Inani and whether any larger conspiracies are at play. The investigation is ongoing, and more updates are anticipated as officials work to bring clarity to this troubling incident.
