Investigators recovered several shell casings after gunfire left an 18-year-old man and a juvenile shot and another man injured.
ATLANTA, Ga. — Atlanta police said multiple people were firing weapons during a Friday night shooting at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex that left an 18-year-old man and a juvenile with gunshot wounds and another man with lacerations.
Officers were called around 8:45 p.m. to 1371 Kimberly Way SW at the Ashley Cascade apartment complex after receiving a report of a person shot. Investigators later determined that several people had been shooting in the area and recovered multiple shell casings at the scene.
The gunfire struck the 18-year-old and the child, police said. Both were alert, conscious and breathing when they were taken to a hospital. Police have not released the juvenile’s age, the identities of the victims or detailed information about their injuries.
A third male victim was found with lacerations related to the incident, according to police. Authorities did not release his age or explain exactly how the cuts occurred. Reports indicated the injured people were taken for medical treatment while officers investigated the scene.
The shell casings and police assessment that multiple people were shooting became key early details in an investigation that remained unresolved Saturday. Authorities had not publicly said how many shooters they believed were involved or whether investigators had identified any of them.
No arrests had been announced, and police had not released descriptions of possible suspects. Investigators also had not disclosed what may have prompted the shooting or whether the people who were injured were specifically targeted.
Police had not said whether the 18-year-old man, the juvenile or the third injured man participated in the gunfire. With those circumstances still under investigation, authorities had not assigned responsibility for the shooting to any of the injured people.
The investigation remained open Saturday as detectives worked to determine who fired the shots and what led to the violence. No additional suspect information or arrests had been announced.
