Cache of Guns and Explosives Seized at North Andover Home After Vehicle Explosion

North Andover, Massachusetts – Homemade explosives and a cache of over 30 guns were discovered in a home in North Andover, Massachusetts, following an explosion that damaged two vehicles on Tuesday. Daniel Medina, 64, was arrested after the incident, with authorities seizing assault rifles, pistols, high-capacity ammunition magazines, and other weapons from his residence on Village Green Drive.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, were involved in the investigation. The Essex County District Attorney’s Office and North Andover police responded to the scene after the explosion, revealing that Medina attempted to conceal the blast’s effects with spray paint.

According to officials, many of the guns found at the residence did not have serial numbers, and it was disclosed that Medina’s gun license expired 24 years ago. Medina faced five felony charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm and property vandalism, during a hearing at Lawrence District Court on Wednesday. He was held without bail until a dangerousness hearing scheduled for July 12.

The motive behind Medina’s possession of the weapons remains unclear to investigators. Police Chief Charles Gray expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation during the investigation, as numerous law enforcement personnel were present at the scene following the incident on Tuesday.

Law enforcement’s presence at the North Andover home was notable, as images showed a significant array of weapons and equipment seized by authorities. The situation raised concerns about public safety and the potential threats posed by the unregistered firearms found at the residence. Medina’s arrest and the subsequent investigation underscored the importance of vigilance and enforcement of firearms regulations in the community to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
