Buscemi Brutally Attacked in Manhattan: Urgent Search for Suspect Underway

New York City – Actor Steve Buscemi is recovering after being attacked in Manhattan on Wednesday. The 66-year-old was reportedly punched in the face while walking in the Kips Bay neighborhood around noon on May 8, as reported by The New York Post. The assault resulted in swelling to his face and left eye, leading him to receive treatment at Bellevue Hospital. Buscemi’s publicist later provided an update on his condition to The Post.

In a statement, the spokesperson shared, “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to him while also walking the streets of New York.” The NYPD mentioned that there have been no arrests made yet, and the investigation continues.

A witness who observed the attack revealed to the paper, “I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards. He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him.” The police department released surveillance footage of a suspect described as a male with dark complexion wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, blue t-shirt, black pants, white sneakers, and carrying a bookbag. Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the perpetrator.

Notably, Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” co-star Michael Stuhlbarg also fell victim to a random attack with a rock in Manhattan recently. Fortunately, a suspect has been apprehended in that case, as reported by People. The incidents involving both actors highlight the ongoing issue of random acts of violence in the city, sparking concerns for public safety. As investigations into both attacks continue, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to aid law enforcement in bringing those responsible to justice.
