The video captured by CBS New York depicts Buscemi looking at his phone before being randomly punched by an unknown assailant on the street. The incident occurred on Third Avenue near East 27th Street around noon on May 8.
Shortly after the video was recorded, police identified the suspect in the attack as 50-year-old Clifton Williams. Buscemi, known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Reservoir Dogs,” was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries to his left eye, including bruising, swelling, and bleeding.
This attack is not an isolated incident, as Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was also assaulted in New York in March. Stuhlbarg was allegedly struck in the head with a rock by a homeless man near Central Park. The actor’s assault adds to the growing concern over random acts of violence in the city.
