Bullet-Riddled Mustang Found After Overnight North Lauderdale Shooting

Deputies gathered evidence for hours after residents reported hearing repeated gunshots before dawn.

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A residential neighborhood in North Lauderdale became the focus of a large law enforcement investigation Friday after deputies responded to reports of gunfire that left a Ford Mustang heavily damaged by bullets.

Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrived overnight in the 7900 block of Southwest Seventh Court after multiple residents reported hearing gunshots around 1 a.m. Crime scene investigators remained at the location Friday morning placing evidence markers across the roadway while documenting damage to the vehicle. The Mustang was eventually loaded onto a tow truck after investigators completed part of their on-scene examination.

Residents described hearing a rapid series of shots that interrupted the normally quiet overnight hours in the neighborhood. One man said he had returned home after a long night and was asleep when the sound of gunfire jolted him awake. “I woke up to gunshots,” he said. “It sounded nonstop for a moment.” Other neighbors said they looked outside and saw flashing patrol lights arriving shortly after the shooting ended.

Investigators found extensive damage on the driver’s side of the Mustang, including a shattered side window and multiple apparent bullet impacts. Pieces of broken glass covered portions of the street near the vehicle. Bloody bandages and medical-related items were also visible nearby Friday morning, though deputies did not immediately clarify whether anyone suffered injuries. Authorities have not publicly identified the owner of the vehicle or said whether a victim sought medical treatment following the shooting.

The investigation drew attention from residents throughout the morning as deputies blocked portions of the street and continued collecting evidence. Several neighbors remained outside watching detectives photograph the scene and search for shell casings. Some residents said they feared the gunfire could have struck nearby homes or innocent bystanders. Investigators have not released information indicating whether surrounding residences or parked vehicles were also hit during the shooting.

Detectives spent hours interviewing witnesses and examining the immediate area for surveillance footage that may help identify suspects or vehicles connected to the gunfire. Authorities did not say whether they recovered a weapon or established a motive by Friday morning. Law enforcement agencies frequently rely on neighborhood security cameras and forensic evidence from shell casings to help determine how shootings unfolded and whether suspects fled in vehicles.

North Lauderdale residents said violent incidents are uncommon on their block, making the overnight shooting particularly unsettling. Families leaving for work and school Friday morning moved around police tape and patrol vehicles while investigators remained active at the scene. Some neighbors gathered in small groups discussing what they heard overnight and trying to piece together what happened before deputies arrived.

Witnesses described hearing what sounded like numerous rounds fired in quick succession. “It was loud enough to shake you awake,” one resident said. Another neighbor said the scene remained active long after sunrise as investigators methodically searched the area. The visible evidence left behind, including damaged glass and medical supplies, added to concerns among nearby residents about the seriousness of the incident.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office had not announced any arrests or released additional details about possible victims by Friday afternoon. Investigators were expected to continue processing evidence and following leads as the case remains active.
