The 32-year-old victim suffered cuts to her arm, chest and back.
NEW YORK — Police said a woman was expected to survive after she was slashed with a scalpel late Tuesday on a northbound 6 train in Mott Haven.
The attack was reported around 11:30 p.m. at the East 149th Street station. Officers found the 32-year-old victim with wounds to her left arm, chest and lower back, police said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital. Police said one person was in custody, but officials did not immediately provide that person’s name, age or possible charges.
Investigators had not released a motive Wednesday. It was not immediately clear where on the train the attack began, how many people were nearby or whether surveillance video was being reviewed.
The East 149th Street station serves riders in Mott Haven and connects the neighborhood to other parts of the Bronx and Manhattan. The late-night response drew police to the northbound 6 train platform as the investigation began.
The case remained under review Wednesday. Police said the victim was expected to recover while authorities continued to determine what happened before the slashing.
