Boy’s Death: Father Charged as Solely Responsible in Sacramento Shooting Incident

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The father of a 10-year-old boy who fatally shot another boy has been charged as the sole responsible party in connection with the tragic incident, according to the Sacramento County prosecutors.

Arkete Davis, 53, the father of the boy who fired the gun, appeared in court for the first time since the Saturday shooting. The shooting took place around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the Foothill Farms area.

Following the shooting, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested Davis and his son. It is believed that the son retrieved a gun from Davis’ vehicle, prompting Davis to attempt to dispose of the stolen gun after the shooting by tossing it into a nearby trash can.

Davis, who is legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm, is facing several firearm-related charges, as well as child endangerment and being an accessory after the fact. Although he is not charged with murder, prosecutors assert that under California law, Davis is responsible for the death of 10-year-old Keith Frierson.

The judge set Davis at no bail, citing that he poses a danger to the community due to his actions of discarding the gun, which still had ammunition. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Jan. 5.

Keith’s family and supporters were present in court, demanding justice for the young boy. His mother, Brittani Frierson, expressed that she believes both the father and son should be held responsible for the tragic death, stating that Davis chose to hide the gun instead of aiding her dying son.

At a vigil for Keith, it was described how he was a loving and active child, who had a passion for sports and played football for the Jr. Foothill Mustangs. His coaches came forward to honor him as a “gentle giant.”

The tragic incident has resulted in the community demanding accountability and justice for the untimely death of Keith Frierson. It is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of responsible firearm ownership and the devastating consequences that can result from negligence and wrongdoing.
