Boxer sentenced to life for brutal murder of man in Weston-super-Mare

Weston-super-Mare, England – A former boxer has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years for the brutal murder of 46-year-old Nick Bryan in Weston-super-Mare. Adam Bowers, 35, attacked Bryan at a flat on Rydal Road on November 15, 2021. Judge Martin Picton condemned Bowers for his grotesque level of violence during the assault.

Bowers, who had been released from jail just the day before the murder after serving time for criminal damage, was drinking at the flat with two women when they invited Bryan back to the residence. An argument ensued, leading to Bowers viciously attacking Bryan by punching and kicking him. He then fled the scene with one of the women.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene the next morning to find Bryan on the kitchen floor with serious injuries. He was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later. Described as a gentle soul by his family, Bryan’s sister, Holly, expressed the immense void his death has left in their lives.

Bowers’ arrest and subsequent imprisonment brought relief and satisfaction to investigating officers at Avon and Somerset Police. Detective Chief Inspector Roger Doxsey highlighted the complexity of the case, given that three individuals were present during the incident. He emphasized the dangerous nature of Bowers and the importance of removing him from the streets to prevent similar offenses in the future.

Holly Bryan’s poignant statement to the court conveyed the profound impact of Bryan’s untimely death on their family. She reflected on the difficulty of deciding to end her brother’s life support and the shattered lives left in the wake of the tragedy. Remembered for his wonderful character by his sister, Bryan’s legacy as a beloved family member and friend lives on.
