Tuesday’s triple shooting occurred near 24th and Jessup streets, where another fatal shooting drew scrutiny earlier this year.
WILMINGTON, Del. — A Wilmington intersection that was already connected to a fatal shooting earlier this year is again the focus of an investigation after gunfire Tuesday night killed a 27-year-old man and wounded two women.
The latest shooting happened about 8:49 p.m. Nov. 3 in the 2300 block of Jessup Street, near 24th Street, according to reports citing Wilmington police. Officers found a 27-year-old man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died. Police have identified him as Nacier Collins.
Two women were also wounded. A 31-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman arrived at a hospital separately with gunshot wounds and was also listed in stable condition. Police have not publicly identified either woman.
The location adds another layer of attention to the case. The intersection of 24th and Jessup streets was also the site of a fatal encounter in June in which Wilmington police shot and killed 19-year-old Kadir Skinner. Authorities have been investigating the use of force in that earlier case. There is no publicly established connection between the June incident and Tuesday’s shooting beyond their location.
Police have not announced an arrest in the latest case or disclosed a possible motive. Authorities also have not said what happened immediately before the gunfire, whether Collins and the two injured women were together or whether investigators have identified a person responsible for the shooting.
Investigators worked along Jessup Street Tuesday night as evidence markers could be seen in the roadway. Police have not publicly described the evidence collected at the scene, and authorities have not said whether surveillance video, witness accounts or other records have provided a description of a suspect.
The renewed violence at the intersection comes as Wilmington has dealt with other shootings in recent months. The earlier incidents are separate investigations, and authorities have not publicly linked Tuesday’s shooting to other cases. Police have released no information suggesting the latest gunfire was connected to the June police shooting.
Collins’ identity was released after the initial reports of the shooting. The names of the injured women have not been made public, and police have not released additional information about their conditions beyond describing both as stable following the shooting.
The Jessup Street investigation remained active Thursday, with detectives still seeking information about the circumstances and the person or people responsible. No suspect description, arrest or motive had been announced in the latest publicly available information.
