Attorney killed in high-speed I-595 crash with Lexus at 124 mph

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A young woman is facing serious charges following a high-speed crash that claimed the life of a prominent attorney last year. Sofia Todorov, who was 19 at the time, has been charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving for her involvement in the incident on Interstate 595 in Davie.

The crash occurred in May of the previous year when Todorov’s car reportedly reached 124 mph just seconds before colliding with another vehicle. The impact resulted in the death of 65-year-old Lorraine Sieler Young, a passenger in the struck vehicle, and left her 84-year-old mother with severe injuries.

Young was a respected attorney with her own practice, and her family remembers her fondly, highlighting her love for the color purple. A photo taken just a month prior to the tragic accident captures her vibrant spirit.

This week, Todorov surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody at the Broward County Jail. As the case progresses, her attorney emphasized that alcohol was not a factor and argued that the case primarily revolved around excessive speed.

Despite the attorney’s defense, the charges against Todorov include reckless driving causing bodily injury and property damage. In court, the judge set her bond at $65,000 with specific conditions attached to her release.

Todorov is prohibited from driving any vehicle while the case is pending, and she must remain in the South Florida area. Additionally, she has been ordered to surrender her passport.

The crash has also led to civil lawsuits filed by Young’s family, seeking justice for the irreversible impact on their lives. The legal proceedings continue to unfold, drawing attention to the devastating consequences of high-speed driving.

As the community grapples with the tragedy, the case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the lasting effects on victims and their families.
