Attempted Drowning of Palestinian-American Girl Sparks Outrage in Texas

Arlington, Texas – US President Joe Biden voiced his concern over disturbing reports of a 3-year-old Palestinian-American girl allegedly being targeted at a pool in Texas. The incident, which occurred in the Dallas suburb of Euless, involved a Texas woman charged with attempted capital murder after trying to drown the young girl at an apartment complex swimming pool.

According to investigators, the woman, identified as Elizabeth Wolf, 42, instigated a confrontation with the girl’s mother at the pool, questioning her about her country of origin due to her wearing a hijab. The altercation escalated when Wolf attempted to grab the woman’s 6-year-old son and subsequently tried to drown her 3-year-old daughter in the pool.

Witnesses reported that Wolf was intoxicated and made racist remarks towards the family regarding their nationality. The mother, known as Mrs. H, expressed her fear and trauma following the incident, stating that her daughter was left traumatized and fearful of further attacks.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the incident, alleging that Wolf not only attempted to drown the girl but also snatched the mother’s headscarf off and beat her with it. The Austin chapter of CAIR has called for a hate crime investigation into the matter, citing a disturbing rise in bigotry targeting individuals based on their religion and nationality.

Wolf has been charged with various counts, including attempted capital murder, injury to a child, and public intoxication. The case has sparked outrage and calls for justice, drawing attention to the importance of protecting individuals from hate-based violence and discrimination. Authorities are working to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected family as they navigate the aftermath of this traumatic event.
