Kanpur, India — A law student was severely injured in a violent altercation at a local pharmacy, sparking community outrage and drawing attention to escalating disputes over seemingly trivial matters. The incident occurred when 22-year-old Abhijeet Singh Chandel engaged in a heated argument about the price of medication with the pharmacy owner.
Witnesses report that Amar Singh Chauhan and his brother, along with two accomplices, turned the discussion into a brutal attack, using a cleaver to assault Chandel. Eyewitnesses described horror as the student sustained life-threatening injuries, with his abdomen severely cut and two of his fingers severed during the onslaught.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Ranjeet Kumar, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Kalyanpur, confirmed that three suspects, including the pharmacy owner, had been arrested, while efforts continue to apprehend a fourth individual involved in the incident. Alongside the physical assault, reports emerged indicating that the accused also attempted to extort the student during the altercation.
After the attack, Chandel was rushed to multiple hospitals, but his critical state initially led to repeated refusals for treatment. In a distressing scene, his family resorted to tying his intestines with cloth as they sought emergency care. Eventually, he was admitted to Regency Hospital, where a two-hour emergency surgery was performed to stabilize his condition. Doctors reported that the student underwent extensive stitching, including 14 stitches on his head, and remains in critical condition.
