Assaults on Female Police Officers Leave One with Sepsis, Man Sentenced to 10 Months in Prison

London, United Kingdom – A man in Swansea, Wales, repeatedly kicked two female police officers, leaving them battered and bruised, according to court proceedings. The assault took place in March of this year when the officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the shared accommodation where the man, Daniel Williams, resided.

Williams, with a history of violence, including assaults and batteries, was deemed obstructive and violent towards the officers when they arrived at the property. Despite their attempts to move him out of the way, Williams dragged them into the hallway and began kicking them, causing injuries to their legs, arms, chests, faces, and backs.

The officers used a Taser in an attempt to subdue Williams, who retreated to his flat and locked himself in the toilet. Backup units were called, and Williams was eventually arrested without further violence. The officers involved suffered bruises and one of them even developed sepsis, requiring hospitalization for six days.

In court, Williams pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. His defense attorney cited his struggles with alcohol addiction and mental health disorders, leading to the violent outburst. Despite his remorse, the judge sentenced Williams to 10 months in prison for each of the assaults, to be served concurrently.

The judge emphasized that police officers have the right to carry out their duties without fear of violence, highlighting the impact of Williams’ actions on the victims. Given his history of violent offenses and the severity of the assaults, immediate custody was deemed necessary. Williams will serve a portion of his sentence in prison before being released on license.

The prosecutor detailed the emotional toll on the officers, emphasizing the need to protect law enforcement personnel from such attacks. The case highlights the risks faced by police officers in the line of duty and the importance of holding perpetrators of violence accountable for their actions.
