Assaulted NYPD officers’ suspect indicted after fleeing to Arizona

NEW YORK CITY – A suspect in a brutal attack on two NYPD officers has been indicted by a grand jury, while additional suspects have been arrested in Arizona after fleeing the scene of the attack in Times Square last week. Yohenry Brito is the only suspect in custody so far, facing charges related to the assault and previous misdemeanor charges. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg presented evidence to the grand jury in hopes of bringing new charges against other individuals involved in the attack.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with the Department of Homeland Security, apprehended the suspects who fled New York City at a Greyhound bus station in Arizona. Authorities believe that four migrants may have left New York by bus for California. The incident, which saw as many as 14 people involved in the attack, was captured on surveillance video showing a routine interaction between two police officers and several men, which quickly escalated into violence.

The officers, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg presented evidence to the grand jury in hopes of bringing new charges against other individuals involved in the attack. Meanwhile, arraignments are pending for two suspects in the Bronx and two in Manhattan who police say are part of a coordination group of thieves on scooters who steal victims’ cellphones, subsequently hacking them for bank information. On Long Island, another man allegedly stole a resident’s pro-Israel flag off their front porch, and when the victim pursued him, the suspect attacked.

As the investigation into the attack continues, authorities are working to apprehend all those involved and ensure that justice is served. The suspects’ arrests in Arizona mark a significant development in the case as law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
