FRESNO, Calif. – Two men were arrested by Fresno police after a violent attack in downtown Fresno early Friday morning. Police responded to the intersection of Mariposa and E Streets at 4:40 a.m., where they found a 47-year-old man unresponsive, suffering from severe trauma to his head and upper body. The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
Authorities reviewed surveillance footage from a nearby business, which showed the victim being assaulted by two Hispanic men. The victim, who had been seated near the intersection two hours earlier, was punched, kicked, and struck multiple times in the head and upper body with a large metal object by the assailants.
The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Raymond Mendoza and 19-year-old Ernest Oliver. They were located at a nearby apartment complex and arrested, with the weapon used in the assault also being found by officers. Mendoza and Oliver were booked into Fresno County Jail on a charge of attempted murder.
