Assault Suspect Michal Godla Faces New Charge of Threatening to Kill Victim

Longford, Ireland – A man facing charges of assault in a Longford park has been accused of threatening to kill the alleged victim. Thirty-four-year-old Michal Godla appeared in Longford District Court, where the new charge was brought against him before Judge Bernadette Owens.

Godla had previously appeared in court on assault charges relating to an incident in Longford town. Detective Garda Orla Geraghty provided evidence of arrest, charge, and caution for the new charge under Section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

When confronted with the charge of threatening to kill or cause serious harm, Godla remained silent. The State has received directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions for Godla to stand trial on both counts, with the possibility of a signed plea agreement.

Judge Owens remanded Godla on continuing bail, scheduling his return to Longford District Court on June 4 for the presentation of a book of evidence. This case highlights the seriousness of assault and threats of violence, emphasizing the need for a fair and just legal process.

As the legal proceedings continue, the accused’s involvement in the criminal justice system raises questions about the impact of such charges on individuals and communities. The court’s decision to allow deliberation on a signed plea reflects the complexity and nuance of criminal cases involving violent offenses.
