Prescott, Arizona — Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two individuals allegedly involved in a violent incident on a hiking trail in Granite Basin. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reported that the assault took place on the morning of September 6.
The confrontation occurred around 8:45 a.m. when a male hiker and his companion encountered a pair of suspects walking with a large brown dog. Initial interactions regarding the dog turned confrontational, with the male suspect reportedly attacking the hiker, delivering multiple punches. A woman accompanying the hiker attempted to intervene and was subsequently assaulted by the female suspect.
The altercation escalated when the male suspect brandished a small black handgun, threatening one of the hikers. Following the incident, both suspects fled toward the main parking lot and evaded law enforcement before officers arrived at the scene.
Although the hikers sustained minor injuries, they chose not to seek medical attention. The Sheriff’s Office has provided descriptions of the suspects. The male is described as a White man in his 30s or 40s with a slim build and slight facial stubble. His female counterpart is also said to be White, with long blonde hair and was last seen wearing dark shorts and a white wristwatch.
The presence of the brown dog, which accompanied the suspects, may serve as a key detail in identifying them. Deputies have not yet located the individuals involved, emphasizing the importance of community awareness in this case.
Investigators are encouraging anyone who may have been in the Granite Basin Lake area, including trails, parking lots, or campgrounds, on the morning of the incident to come forward.
