Assault Case: Michael Godla Accused of Attacking Woman at Longford Park

Longford, Ireland – A 34-year-old man from Annaly Court in Longford, Michael Godla, faced charges of assaulting a woman in a Longford park at his recent court appearance. The alleged incident occurred at The Mall in Longford town on August 7, 2023. The victim, a woman in her 50s, suffered serious facial injuries while taking a walk around the Mall complex around 2:30 am.

Godla appeared at Longford District Court, where it was revealed that this was not his first court appearance in connection to the assault. He had previously appeared at Athlone District Court in January to face formal charges related to the incident. To date, directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) regarding the case are pending, and the State requested an adjournment to review the investigation file.

Despite the request for additional time, there was no objection from Godla’s defense solicitor, Frank Gearty. However, Judge Bernadette Owens emphasized the importance of progressing the case at the next court date. Godla was then remanded on continuing bail to appear at Longford District Court on April 9.

The victim’s injuries, sustained during the assault, required medical treatment at Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital. The severity of the assault and the ongoing legal proceedings against Godla have raised concerns within the community. Residents are hopeful for a fair resolution to the case and justice for the victim.

As the case continues to unfold, the court proceedings will likely shed more light on the details of the assault and the impact it has had on both the victim and the defendant. The community awaits further developments in this case, hoping for a just outcome that reflects the seriousness of the incident.
